In 2013, Carissa launched the Thank You Small Business Movement, which was created to raise awareness around the fact that true-blue small business owners, as a collective, serve as the backbone of our economy; and that the only way to change the economy is for everyone to better support and encourage these individuals who have such a great impact on the global economic health. Carissa speaks and writes often on small business growth. She has written five books, including, Inspiring Entrepreneurs: How to Build Your Business To Its First Million and I Will. Her next book, Thank You Small Business, which served as the inspiration behind the Thank You Small Business Movement, will be released in October 2013 in tandem with the second phase of the movement. She has been a featured guest speaker, columnist and contributor with Inc’s GrowCo conference and Inc Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, New York Times, Globe and Mail, Huffington Post, Forbes.com, Business Journal, OWN, National Post and many more. Carissa has also been a small business spokesperson and partner with leading Fortune 500 companies such as Google, American Airlines, Citrix, RIM, Staples, Intuit, HP and UPS - working with each of these large companies to help more small businesses grow. Through her holding company, CRinc, Carissa is an investor and advisor to many small businesses and she is also a Founding Partner at Gen Y Capital Partners. She is also the creator of the Real (Love) Stories Project- a website that collects real people’s relationship stories and uses the stories as inspiration for art and entertainment. A huge believer in giving back and helping others, Carissa served as the President of Women Entrepreneurs of Canada, is now the Co-Chair of Nikibasika Children’s Development Project in Uganda and on the board of multiple non-profit and arts organizations. For fun, Carissa is getting her pilot’s license and is planning to fly around the world. She is working hard to live out her personal manifesto every single day. Do Life. Be Real. Make People Smile.
About This Community:
Thank You Small Business (TYSB) is a big movement in support of small business. We know that small business owners are the backbone of our global economy - yet the small business failure rate is shocking. Most small business owners feel insignificant on their own; but if you look at this group as a collective, their economic contribution is HUGE and serves as the driving force behind our economy. If a fraction of these small business were provided the resources, support and encouragement needed to keep them growing - enough to allow them to hire just one employee, unemployment could be eradicated. The economy would begin to heal. We exist to figure out what small businesses need to achieve this greater level of success. We exist to provide them the support and resources they need to keep them not just alive, but thriving. We exist to thank them for how hard they work for ALL of us. We exist to increase the general awareness of how vitally important it is to buy from small businesses and how important it is to support and encourage each and every small business owner you know. We exist to teach the world that bailing out another corporation or finding the next big tech start-up is not going to change our economy - but helping 1% of existing small businesses grow will. We are putting forth a challenge to world to support these small business owners in very real ways - ways that will allow them to grow, hire new employees, and create a thriving global economy.
